My highest value is beauty. I seek it in nature, ideas, and people. My second highest value is truth. I seek it in thinking, relationships, and perception. I trust the great traditions, science, and my own intuition, and I know that none of them are infallible. Since science has spent the most time creating a method to prevent deception, including self-deception, I trust it the most. But I also trust the eons of natural selection recorded in my genome. And I study religion, literature, and art tuned as they are for the heart. I appreciate the sparks of genius that come to all who think and question and ponder. It remains strangely evident -- the truth sets us free.

    1. Hey Brad, I was just at Trail Pond in September. You access it off of a road that intersects with Great Central Lake Road, near Port Alberni. Do you live on Vancouver Island? Trail Pond is noted in the Backroads Mapbook.

  5. Richard, did end up selling your Autumn Mist canoe? What, if anything, did you replace it with - and why?

Have been reading some of your well produced paddling blogs. Not sure if what I thought was a clue that you sold the Mist is actually correct.

    1. Hi Ivan, ended up keeping the Mist and selling the Spitfire. Replaced with a light tandem, the Escape from Clipper. Logic suggested that the Spitfire was a better all round boat for what I do, but when it came to it, I couldn't sell the Mist. It is the best canoe I've ever paddled for what I want. Quick on the long runs, reasonably maneuverable, and I've gone to a kneeling style as my preferred style, so the Spitfire will not accommodate that. I might at some point replace the mist with a slightly lighter craft, but for now, it is doing me just fine. Curious to know why you ask. Are you looking to buy?
